Global Commons Alliance

Global Commons Alliance is a network of climate-focused organisations focused on collaboration to find fair solutions to climate change. Its mission is to empower citizens, companies and countries to become effective stewards of the global commons: the environmental systems in the biosphere and climate system that regulate the state of the planet, or, in other words, our life support system.

Overview

The Global Commons Alliance (GCA) is a network of 60 organisations that collaborate to safeguard the global commons.

GCA is modelled on the work of Nobel Prize winning economist Elinor Ostrom, who identified principles for the effective management of common resources. The organisation was set up to incubate collaborative efforts among existing organisations to tackle the climate and nature crises together.

The GCA thinks holistically, targeting the systems change required to stay within planetary boundaries while ensuring a just transition.

Our support is helping to deliver the Global Campaign for a Safe and Just Future, to move business and investor communities beyond the focus on carbon emissions, to a holistic ‘Global Commons' approach via the adoption science-based targets. Funding will also help establish a finance hub to provide the tools investors and companies need to translate commitments into concrete action aligned with science.
