Overview
Greyston Foundation is a US charitable organisation and social enterprise that uses the power of employment to break the cycle of poverty. For nearly 40 years, Greyston has been practising Open HiringTM at their world-class Greyston Bakery. Greyston Bakery is a profitable bakery with a growing list of clients including Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream and Whole Foods.
We have worked with Greyston since 2018, when we funded the creation of the Greyston Center for Open Hiring, which supports companies to successfully implement Open Hiring.
Open Hiring is a simple hiring process with no interviews, no background checks, and no resumes needed to secure employment. This innovative way of hiring saves employers hiring costs while employing people who were previously excluded from the workforce and in this way breaks the cycle of poverty.
The Center has now supported 1,500 people in finding jobs and worked with 81 companies across the US to implement open and inclusive hiring practices.
Our most recent grant will support Greyston to make open and inclusive hiring mainstream, and support sectors and regions across the US to reap the benefits of inclusive hiring practices while enriching the communities in which they operate.
