Overview

The Niskanen Center is a leading US think tank focused on market‐based solutions to climate change.

An ambitious and sustainable carbon price requires:

  • More research into the adoption of carbon border adjustment mechanisms; and
  • Revenue to accrue to the people worst affected by both climate change and the transition to a low‐carbon economy.

Our funding supports original research into market‐based climate solutions and environmental justice in the United States as well as the implications of climate action for trade in international markets.

Niskanen aims to build on its extensive expertise on carbon pricing to conduct a county‐level analysis of the impact of a carbon price on air quality and health for communities across the US and assess potential pollution hotspots. Funds will also support a new research programme on the interaction of climate policies and trade.
